How To Really “never Say Diet” In 2009

It may seem strange to think you can break the fat habit for good and still not need to be on a “diet.” However, it really is possible. I know this because I was once the woman who was desperate to feel better and look better. Yet I would break my New Year’s resolutions well before Valentine’s Day. Just in time to indulge in some chocolate covered strawberries! Seriously, I had struggled with food and my weight for nearly all of my life. Up until the day I finally let go.
One night, all alone, I cried out to God. Coming from complete desperation and devastation, I told Him I needed a miracle. Without one, I told Him I wanted to die. Of course He already knew. But I needed to say the words–”I am done, Lord! I am done feeling out of control.” Truthfully, I was always trying to control everything at the same time and ending up empty. I rejoice every day since. He met me that night and my life has never been the same.
I weighed over 350 pounds at that time. I knew losing weight was the only way I would start to feel better. I asked God to help me design a plan for the rest of my life that involved eventual freedom. He did–and it wasn’t a diet.
The plan I created began by initially making five non-negotiable decisions. From there I created a nutrition and exercise program to follow. Over the course of the next year and a half, I lost two hundred pounds. Eight years later, having run five full marathons, I have never looked back. If you are in need of a miracle, if you just want to lose a few pounds and feel better, I want to help. More importantly, God wants to help. My life’s verses come from Psalm 139:13-16. (NIV)
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
This means first understanding you are perfect in His sight today. No matter what you see your reflection as in the mirror. Second, from now on, you can have the confidence of Christ to succeed in everything, beginning with obtaining optimal health and fitness.
Here are the Five Decisions:
1. Be truthful. This means own up to your current situation. It’s time to get real!
2. Be forgiving. You must stop beating up yourself over old failures. Move on!
3. Be committed. There is no one that can do this for you. You must stay the course!
4. Be interested. By learning how your body is rigged, your choices can match your knowledge.
5. Be surrendered. By laying this down and promising never to pick it up again, you can be free forever.
Becoming the best you can be should be the focus. Not quick weight loss. Remember, rapid weight loss equals rapid weight gain. I pray you will be done with regular disappointment and opt for a new way of doing things in 2009. I believe in you, best of all, God always has!
