Christmas in July…Really?
Last month I walked into my local craft and hobby shop to discover the shelves filled with Christmas decor and craft supplies. As I checked out I said to the cashier, “I can’t believe you have Christmas out already.” She bubbled, “Only five months to get it all done.” I walked out thinking how quickly those five months will pass.
Whether you are the plan-ahead type person or the December 24th shopper, July really isn’t too far in advance to begin your Christmas shopping. And books, especially books with a purpose, are the perfect gift. Here are a few steps to get you into the spirit.
- Start by making a list of family, friends, and those special people whom you’d love to bless.
- Over the coming months, be observant. What kind of books are they presently reading? What is stacked near their favorite chair? In conversation, what needs or faith questions are they struggling with? Who is their favorite author? Where are the children in their faith journeys?
- When you have the answers to these questions, plan a visit to your local Christian bookstore and share the list with the staff. They are experts in helping you match your list with just the right gift.
And who knows? You may have your Christmas shopping completed before it is time to put the tree up. Better hurry…it is already August.
