How to Find Rest
by Janet Perez Eckles
In the last 30 years as a sightless person, I’ve had my share of mishaps. Falling when I missed steps, diving into a fountain in a shopping center, tripping on curbs, getting into the wrong car, etc—all part of being blind.
But the worst was when I fell into an emotional sinkhole after losing my sight.
I fell to the bottom and found myself alone, sinking in the murky waters of self-pity.
Have you been there? You know the pain and the anguish. But when the rest of the world is busy with their own lives, there is one person who is attentive. He’s Jesus. He wears the garment of mercy. And displaying radiant grace, He sees our wounds and hears our cries. And that’s when His soft invitation pierces our pain.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).
Trusting in this invitation, I found peace for my blindness. I saw grace in His arms. And I embraced the rest He promised.
Will you accept Jesus’ invitation today?
