Is God ALWAYS Good?

It happened again. I posted some good news on Facebook, and my friends rejoiced with me…

God is good!
God answers prayer!
God is an awesome God!

But their responses started me wondering. What if things had not turned out the way I wanted? Would everyone still respond the same way? Would I still say…

God is good!
God answers prayer!
God is an awesome God!

…or would I doubt God’s goodness?

The prophet Habakkuk wrote:

Though the fig tree does not bud
and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the LORD,
I will be joyful in God my Savior (Habakkuk 3:17-18).

Today, we might say:

Though the cancer is not healed
and my house is in foreclosure,
though my marriage has failed
and the economy produces no jobs,
though there is no food in the pantry
and no money in the bank,
yet I will rejoice in the LORD,
I will be joyful in God my Savior.

No matter what happens, God is good.
Whether I understand my circumstances or not, God is good.
Whether I can serve Him the way I want or not, God is good.
Whether my days are difficult or easy, God is good.

It’s always true:
God is good, all the time.
And all the time, God is good.
