Wonder, Worship and Worry
by Grace Fox
Living on a sailboat puts me in close contact with creation. Herons, bald eagles, ducks and Canadian geese fly or float by every day. Occasionally I see fish jump. Every good-weather-day offers the opportunity to witness the sun rise and set. The river mirrors its hues and leaves me in awe of the Master Artist who splashes its colors across the sky.
Creation leaves me in wonder of God’s wisdom and power, and wonder leads to worship. I see the beauty of nature around me and can’t help but praise the One who designed it. Sometimes I sit in silence, and sometimes I sing a familiar chorus or hymn.
Worship focuses my attention on Almighty God. He reminds me that His wisdom and power are at work on my behalf, and I can trust Him with every detail of my life. He has a good plan for me, and nothing can thwart His purposes. I needn’t fear an uncertain future because He holds me in His hands.
I’m hanging onto these truths amidst the crazy days in which we live. Intentionally setting aside a few minutes each day to enjoy creation’s beauty helps move me to awe and wonder. Wonder leads to worship, and worship frees me from worry. It really works! Go ahead, and give it a try.
