3 Reasons to Visit Your Local Christian Bookstore
by Cindi McMenamin
Want a richer experience than a “click and pay” on your personal device the next time you browse a book? Here are three reasons to visit your local Christian bookstore or drop into a different one when you’re out of town:
- Every life-changing book I’ve read has fallen into my hands through the recommendation of a friend or through a personal conversation that I had with someone, not by responding to a targeted ad on social media or searching through topics on Amazon and then reading through online reviews. Christian bookstores offer live people who know Christian books and provide genuine endorsements you can trust.
- People looking for answers, hope, growth in their relationship with God or gifts of encouragement walk through the doors of Christian bookstores. Therefore, your support of those stores ensures a continued “safe haven” for those who are seeking something uplifting and encouraging, not tempting and distracting.
- Some of the best recommendations I’ve received and some of the most encouraging conversations I’ve experienced have occurred in a Christian bookstore. There is nothing more exciting than a divine appointment, and those tend to happen when you get out of the house, explore what is around you and meet and talk with others. Be in the places where God shows up, and He often does that through the conversations in a local Christian bookstore. Go ahead. Walk in. Initiate a conversation. And see what God will do.
