A 25-Year Prayer Journey . . . For My Prodigal

Shopping with my son for items to fill a half-dozen Christmas boxes, I thanked God for the return of my Prodigal and remembered back to 25 years ago.

I knew he wouldn’t listen to me. Not about going to church. After all, I was just his mom. Of course he wouldn’t listen to his dad either. Work had moved us and he was mad at God. I started what would turn into 25 years of prayer. I asked God to bring someone into his life who would influence him to come home to the Lord. Little did I know who God would choose to accomplish it.

His first client was InTouch Ministries. Dr. Charles Stanley. After a few months, I heard him begin to talk about God. Little things at first. Then he’d get into a discussion about faith. I opened my mouth to make sure he knew the Scripture, but stopped. He sounded like one of the early disciples. Who taught him this?

“I did,” I heard in my spirit.

God answered this mother’s prayers in a big way. I’m now watching my son serve the Lord in his church, through his business, and with his whole heart. He’s sold out to God.
