A Prayer for Strained Relationships

In a perfect world, our lives would be filled with warm, fuzzy relationships. But the world is imperfect, and so are we. The result? Sometimes those relationships feel distant or cold.

Prayer is my first recourse when I sense strain. I ask God for wisdom to understand the situation and to help me see the other person through His eyes. And then I pray, “Father, paint the relationship You desire for me and so-and-so on the canvas of our hearts.”

The canvas painting might take longer to create than I think it should. That’s okay because masterpieces take time. Perhaps the Master Painter has to correct unsightly splotches I’ve left on the canvas. Thankfully, He’s skilled at His craft. The end result probably won’t look like what I wish or expect, but if it makes Him smile, then it’s good enough for me.

MorningMomentsWithGodThere’s nothing magical about my canvas prayer, but I find it freeing. When I step away from the easel and let God do His job, peace reigns.
