A Teapot or a Bucket

This is the time of year when we usually head back into our routines; but this year, nothing is routine. We are told that this is our new normal; and for many of us, that is unsettling. Yet, what if this season is what God will use to reshape and remake us into what is needed for such a time as this?

You’ve probably heard that we are the clay and Jesus is the Potter (Jeremiah 18). The Potter knows the purpose of the vessel He’s shaping—He knows where you will be used.

Perhaps you’ve been a teapot (you had a job, your kids were in school, and your 401k looked great), but the teapot broke; nothing is like it was. The reality is, God now needs a bucket and the teapot needed to be replaced. That is the painful part of this process. Often, we focus on the loss of the teapot. We mourn the loss—it was beautiful and perfect. After a time of mourning, it is helpful to see that in this time God needs a bucket and not the teapot.

As the clay in God’s hands, are you willing to be reshaped into a bucket? The new normal may not look anything like the old. However, in the Potter’s hand, we can trust that in this new normal we will be used by a Heavenly Father who sees you as beautiful, whether a teapot or a bucket.
