Are You Wearing Your Galoshes?
by Cheri Cowell
A little girl was seen dressed in her rain slicker and galoshes, but there was not a cloud in the sky. When asked why she was dressed this way she said, “I just know it’s gonna rain, so I’m prepared.”
The saying goes, “April showers bring May flowers,” and many of us hope the rain is coming because we love flowers. But sometimes the rain comes as a storm. God tells us He sends the rain on the just and the unjust (Matthew 5:45). In other words, the rain is coming. Bad things will happen, but so too will the good.
A favorite verse for those enduring a storm is Romans 8:28, in which God promises He will turn those rain storms into something good for those whom He’s called. The flowers will come, it’s a promise. The question is are you spiritually ready for both sunshine and rain?
If you expect God will shower you with blessings, are you wearing your raincoat and galoshes even in the bright sunshine? Because that is anticipation.
