A Father’s Love

“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!”
1 John 3:1

Your Heavenly Father longs to have a personal relationship with you. And because of His unfathomable love for you, God sent His only Son to die for you so that you could have that relationship with Him.

But according to Romans 3:23, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Our sin separates us from God. And although it’s easy to justify our actions as better than someone else’s, none of us can measure up to God’s standard of holiness.

As sinners, there is nothing we can do that is good enough to earn our way in to heaven. In fact, the only thing we do deserve is death—or eternal separation from God in hell. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Although we deserve death, God has given us a gift—the gift of eternal life. Jesus tells us in John 3:16 that “God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” This is a free gift to us, purchased through the blood of Christ. Christ, the perfect, sinless sacrifice, took our place and paid the punishment for our sins through His death (on the cross) and resurrection from the dead. Since Jesus Christ did what we as sinners could not do for ourselves, the only way for us to be saved from our sin is by trusting in Him.

For some people, this may seem too simple. But the Bible tells us in Acts 4:12 that “there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Those who accept God’s gift can know without a doubt that they have been spiritually born again and that heaven is their home and God is their Father! According to John 1:12, “To all who did receive [Jesus], who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.”
If you would like to accept God’s gift of salvation and become His child, simply tell Him so. Romans 10:9 says, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” The following prayer is a guide to help you express your desire to God:

Dear God,
I know that I am a sinner. Thank You for sending Your perfect Son to die in my place. I know that it is only through His sacrificial death on the cross and resurrection from the dead that I am able to be called Your child. I now accept Your gift of new life. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen

If you have accepted God’s gift of new life, please let us know so we can encourage you and pray for you. To learn more about being a part of God’s family, we suggest reading the Gospel of John in the New Testament.
