Connecting Moms and Daughters through Scripture

As a mom of two girls, I have watched as my daughters stand with one foot still firmly planted in childhood, while the other foot tentatively inches toward their teen years. One minute they want to crawl into my lap, and the next they scream for independence. Sound familiar? The tween years find our daughters tuning an ear to a worldly frequency that they may be hearing for the first time. Yet their hearts are still open to the mommy wisdom we wish to impart. Do you watch your girls grow before your eyes and worry about the messages and role models society deems appropriate for them?

The mother-daughter bond is something truly special to be cherished and nurtured, which is exactly what I longed to do as my girls entered their tween years. When my oldest daughter entered this new season of life, I searched tirelessly for a Bible study to share with her. I found countless options for either children or for teens, but very few for the tween age-group—and none of these options were designed for moms and tween daughters to share together. Recognizing an unfulfilled need, I felt God calling me to write Becoming a Girl of Grace: A Joint Bible Study for Tween Girls & Their Moms.

BecomingGirlThis first book in the Bible study series is meant to lead moms and tween girls through a fun and meaningful exploration of the life lessons exemplified for us by the original girls of grace: Eve, Naomi, Ruth, Deborah, the woman in the crowd, and many more. All of these women from the Bible model important life lessons that are still very much relevant for girls of grace today. We may not be able to fully understand what it was like to walk in their shoes, but these women of yesterday have a lot to share with the girls of today. Handling mean girls, feeling left out of a group of friends, learning to like oneself, and dealing with bullies are not new social dilemmas. The Bible is full of examples of strong females who chose to follow God and pursue faith despite what was happening in their world and cultures.

For the last several years, I have been on an incredible journey to deepen my relationship with my daughters while we chase after God together. Part of this journey led to the birth of Team Grace Ministries, an organization I founded with the mission of helping moms and daughters strengthen their relationships through the study of Scripture and fellowship. The heart of Team Grace mom-and-daughter events is that no one remains unchanged—every mom and daughter leaves with an ignited passion for God and a strengthened bond with one another.

Above all else, I am passionate about being a wife and mama. I also love encouraging other moms and tween girls in their own journeys of faith. In the midst of this crazy thing called life, my prayer is that we can share hope and lift one another up as we all seek to glorify God through our families and faith. Find release from those busy schedules and be transformed by spending time in God’s Word together. This is the heart behind the Girls of Grace Bible study series and Team Grace Ministries.

I am divorcing my wife and have custody of my children and was told I could get some info for becoming a better single dad. I have always been the dad/mom since their birth. I have been Christian since I can remember.
