Celebrate Jesus—the Light of the World
We pulled our fake tree from its box, assembled it branch by branch, and propped it in its stand. Next, we untangled several strands of teeny colored lights and plugged them into a socket. Nothing happened. And so the search began.
We tested the tiny twinklers one by one until we found the culprit. The entire string lit up the moment we replaced it. Minutes later, the tree stood transformed.
During the busy Christmas season, I find calm when I darken the living room and then sit silently in the sparkle of the teeny colored tree lights. There I reflect on Jesus and His declaration: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12).
This season we celebrate Jesus—the Light of the world. Sometimes the world’s problems, and our own, surround us with despair and darkness, but the Light’s presence pierces that darkness with hope.
Tonight, take a few minutes to enjoy my tradition. Sit quietly in the glow of your Christmas tree lights and reflect on Jesus, the Light of the world. Thank Him for piercing the darkness, and then celebrate the season with joy!
