Finding Joy in the Small Things

When life hits us over the head with one thing after another, it’s easy to focus on the negative, but I’ve discovered that finding joy in the small things really helps alter my outlook.

In my book The Sleuth’s Surprise, the characters are going through a difficult time, yet they manage to find joy in little things such as an ice cream cone and a walk in the park.

What gives you joy?

Sunshine puts a smile on my face. I live in the Pacific Northwest and cherish the sunny days. Did you know the act of smiling actually reduces stress and makes you feel better? I suggest smiling can create joy inside us as well.

Maybe visiting with someone virtually or in person isn’t an option, but there are other ways to find joy such as the following: read a book, watch a movie, read your Bible, think happy thoughts, take a walk, roller skate, ride a bike, canoe, horseback ride, take a hike, do something nice for someone else. There are so many little things that can bring us joy and turn a negative outlook into a positive.
