God is BIGGER!

Are you struggling, like me, with all that has happened this year? It seems every time I turn around something makes me shake my head and mutter, “It’s 2020, after all.”

But nothing prepared me for the phone call from my mom on July 29.

“They found a mass.”

My breath hitched in my throat. My sweet, sassy eleven-year-old niece had a brain tumor.

As a family, we barely had a chance to understand all that was happening, and yet Abbie had been having symptoms for months. Now all the signs, including nausea, made sense. We had our answer. Praise God that a trip to the eye doctor revealed what other tests during that time had not.

Who knew we’d be thankful for swollen optic nerves?

Within a week, Abbie had brain surgery to remove the mass. August 3, my dad’s birthday, was a very long day. After nine grueling hours, the 1½ inch tumor attached to the brain stem was out. Praise the Lord!

A week later, we received the news that Abbie’s tumor was called an ependymoma, a rare brain tumor that only 300 children in the United States get each year. After recovering from surgery, the next six months would be filled with radiation and chemotherapy. (As I write this post, Abbie is at the halfway point with radiation.)

Through all of this, our family clings to Hebrews 11:1, which says, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” We are relying on God to carry us through because He is bigger than any challenge we will face.

What are you going through in 2020 that you need to trust God to carry you through? A health diagnosis? Money struggles? Lost job or home? Remember, God is BIGGER! He will carry you through!
