God IS in Control of My Life
I don’t know about you, but I like to have all my ducks in a row. I’m an organizer and administrator, even in life. That doesn’t leave a lot of space for anyone else to be in control, even God.
I had a total knee replacement last year. Everything that happened was a surprise. My doctor had told me lots of things, but not everything I wish I’d known before the surgery.
Because of pain and swelling in the other knee, I chose to have the surgery this year. I went to the doctor in late June, thinking I’d have the surgery and be completely through rehab by the end of July or maybe early August.
This time, even though I knew what to expect, things didn’t go as I had planned. I needed more testing, and the test results didn’t get to the doctor in a timely manner … every test. The surgery was postponed several times. Not in my plan.
My surgery took place August 17. After spending time frustrated, I finally began to see God’s hand in the whole event.
When I first went to the doctor to tell him I wanted surgery, I had been very weak because of not getting enough exercise. I’d had to stay off the knee two weeks. If I’d had the surgery when I wanted it, I might not have been strong enough to undergo surgery.
During all the delays, I continued to get stronger. I could see God’s hand in every delay. He was delaying the surgery until I was strong enough. When I shared this with my husband, he quoted this verse to me: And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 (NKJV)
That’s true in every area of our lives. If we’d cling to this promise, we’d have a lot less worry.
