I Am Cyrus: The Story of a Friendship that Changed the History of the World
Dr. Craig von Buseck
Someone once said, “Human beings are wired for story.” We all know that Jesus used stories to pierce the hearts of His audience, and His simple but profound parables echo through two millennia into our lives today.
I first heard the story of Harry Truman and his Jewish business partner, Eddie Jacobson, in 1988 when I listened to a tape from Friends of Israel—and I never forgot it.
During a time of worship in 2012, the Lord spoke to my heart with clarity. “My people, Israel, are coming into a time of heightened persecution,” He said. “I want you to write the book that I have placed on your heart about President Truman and the rebirth of Israel. I want you to write this book to show how my hand was upon Israel in its rebirth, so that people will see that my hand is upon Israel today.”
At that time, I sensed the Lord directing me to write the book that had been on my heart for all those years.
I began with a research trip to the Harry S. Truman presidential library in the fall of that year. That was followed by five years of research and writing.
Beginning with the birth of both the Zionist Movement and Harry Truman in the 1880s, this book chronicles the growth of Zionism and the unlikely emergence of Harry Truman on the American political stage. It then describes the prophetic and historic days leading up to the rebirth of Israel—and the vital role Harry Truman and Eddie Jacobson played in those crucial moments.
In I Am Cyrus: Harry S. Truman and the Rebirth of Israel, I tell the epic story of Israel’s rebirth—promises made, promises broken, and ultimately the fulfillment of the ancient prophecy that this people would indeed return to their Promised Land.
I think you will be moved by the intimate story of the friendship of Harry and Eddie—and how their brotherly trust influenced one of the greatest stories in history, the rebirth of Israel.
