I Love to Celebrate Christmas in August

I love to celebrate Christmas in August. Here in Texas, August means triple-digit temperatures, bright sunlight and swimsuits. Nothing could be further from jingle bells, mistletoe and Christmas trees.

I’m not even thinking of Christmas-giving lists, or baking Christmas cookies, or wrapping presents, or shopping. And I’m not practicing for our annual Christmas Choir Concert. Nor am I thinking of Christmas parties and get-togethers, or door-to-door caroling.

Phew, that’s a relief! Because it’s hot here in Texas. August is more a time to relax.

We do have barbecues, swim parties and the occasional outdoor concert. But mostly we enjoy our outdoor activities in the very early morning before the heat sets in. Then during the hottest portions of the day, we settle into a comfy chair and pick up a good book.

Groom For ChristmasThat’s when I like to read about Christmas. The cool snow, the festive decorations, the parties and how much I enjoy a Christmas wedding when a couple begins a new life together. I love remembering how we celebrate our Lord Jesus’ birthday on the twenty-fifth. And His birthday reminds me of the best gift I’ve ever received. When I was born-again and received new life in Christ. He gave me the gift of my sins forgiven and forgotten, and the gift of eternal life.

Christmas is a time to celebrate. And August in Texas is nothing to celebrate. So, I love Christmas stories in August. Today, I’m celebrating by giving away a few copies of my latest Christmas book, A Groom For Christmas. Enjoy!

Did I mention I love to celebrate birthdays more like birthweeks or even birthmonths. Maybe we’ll discuss that the next time we get together.
