Our Confidence Is in Christ
by Ginny McCabe
God’s Word is full of promises that our confidence is in Christ. Each of us can find peace, encouragement and strength when we place our confidence in Him. Yet, there may be days when we feel discouraged or defeated by circumstances and challenges we face. We might compare ourselves to others or not see the light at the end of the tunnel when we are facing a trial.
Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ, because he gives me strength,” serves as a reminder that we can rely on God for what we need and know He will provide for us. He understands our hearts and always knows what we are going through. I love this verse. Reading it can help change my attitude. It allows me to focus my energies on Christ, rather than on my concerns, worries or shortcomings.
God gives each of us special talents, abilities and skills. He also gives us confidence to use our gifts for His glory and there is so much power in believing that. I am thankful for the confidence we have, because it allows us to go through life, knowing that our lives are in God’s hands and He will guide and protect us when we trust Him.
Think of one goal or dream, and ask yourself how you are going to achieve it. Then, write down a couple of positive thoughts that will help you focus on what you want to do like, “God loves me as I am” or “God is with me.”
In addition to relying on God’s Word, there are things we can do every day that will reinforce the confidence we have in Christ. It might be something small like going for a new look or taking a walk. It’s okay to compliment yourself and to forgive yourself when you make a mistake.
Let’s close with this prayer, “Lord, help me to place my hope and trust in You. Give me courage and confidence so that others can see Your power in my life. Guard my thoughts and protect my heart. Help me to overcome my weaknesses. Amen.”
