He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven.
Psalm 107:29–30 NIV
Some days the troubles are so deep that you can’t wade through them. An overdrawn bank account. A sick child. A pesky neighbor. An overbearing boss. Why do these things always seem to compound—one on top of the other?
If you’re having a day like this, take a deep breath. If you can, tuck yourself away from people for a few minutes (even if it’s in the restroom at work). In that place, God can calm the storm. Make a list of what needs to be done and put those things in a workable order. (One reason we often feel overwhelmed is because we can’t determine a path of action.)
Once you’ve started your list, map out individual strategies for the problems you’re facing. Having a written plan will help a lot. And remember, God sees you—even in the restroom with tears rolling down your cheeks. He’s keenly aware of what you’re going through and already sees the solutions before you do. So trust Him. Even if it feels impossible. Lift your hands and say, “Jesus, please heal this situation and mend my heart as well.”
You can calm the storms in my heart, even on the hardest day, Jesus. Amen.
