Pray for Anna

What’s your favorite birthday gift ever? Mine was spending time with Anna, a grey-haired Romanian granny.

It was July 9, 2012. I’d spent the week prior in a small Romanian village, hosting a camp for teens living with infectious diseases. The camp ended that morning, and our short-term ministry team looked forward to an hour of free time after lunch. We chose to spend it walking through the village, greeting the locals along the way

AnnaWe rounded a corner on the main street, and there sat Anna—sitting on the same bench where I’d found her during the same week in 2010 and 2011. She beamed a toothless grin when she saw me. Then she grabbed my face and smothered it with kisses.

Anna wasted no time launching into stories about her life experiences. Tears filled her eyes as she told of horrific childhood abuse at the hands of her alcoholic father.

“May I pray for you?” I asked when she paused to catch her breath.

Anna’s eyes lit up. “Yes, please,” she said.

With my translator’s help, I asked Jesus to reveal Himself to Anna and to draw her into a saving relationship with Him. I asked Him to heal the broken places in her heart, and to overwhelm her with His love.

Anna repeated my “amen” and then thanked me for coming to see her. I silently thanked God for giving me the opportunity to meet this woman a third time and to pray for her—the best birthday gift ever.

Leg injuries prevented me from traveling to Romania last year, but this year’s different. As you read this, I’m in Anna’s village hosting another camp for sick kids. I’ll have an hour of free time when camp ends, and I plan to walk through the village again. Will Anna be sitting in the same place and if so, will she remember me?

Morning Moments with GodWould you whisper a prayer on my behalf, that God will give me another opportunity to share His love with Anna this week and that her heart will be receptive to the Good News. Thanks in advance for your part in encouraging this dear woman.
