Sometimes Life’s a Rodeo

Ever land face down in the dirt and wonder what hit you and why you didn’t see it coming?

Yeah, me too. That’s when I realize the old phrase, “It’s a jungle out there,” just isn’t true.

It’s a rodeo out there.

Even if we don’t sign up to enter the bronc riding or the wild-cow milking—and most women don’t—life still swings the gate wide the moment we step into the arena.

My life as the wife of a rodeo clown and barrelman gave me a front-row seat on what it means to be pummeled. But no matter how hard the bulls hit my husband’s red, white, and blue clown barrel, he always climbed out safe at the end of the performance because he was prepared.

It’s not so different with Jesus. He knew what we’d be facing and He gave us a heads-up.

Romancing the Widow“In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I’ve conquered the world.” (John 16:33)

Jesus knows. What amazing comfort I find in those two little words. He relates. He gets it. And He’s there to help me get back up and on my feet again.

The next time you’re reeling from an unexpected hit, remember that Jesus is with you. He loves you. And He’s faithful to help you if you will let Him.

Davalynn, you always hit the nail on the head, (have been thinking how to say that in rodeo language and can’t come up w/anything – lol).

Thanks for the encouragement, as usual.

Davalynn, so fun that your husband is a rodeo clown. I liked your analogy about being prepared.

Zoe – I would have replied earlier today but I was in Cripple Creek at the rodeo watching our son fight bulls there. You know what they say about “train up a child!” Thanks for reading.

Now I get it. Jesus is my barrel, and all I have to do is climb inside. Thanks for reminding me.
