The Love Month

Even though every month should be a time when we show love to others, February is known as the month of love and romance. According to the National Retail Federation, about 55% of Americans celebrate Valentine’s Day, and those who do will spend close to $150 to give gifts to their loved ones.

It is important to remember that showing love to others doesn’t need to be expensive. Homemade gifts, acts of service, and thoughtful words can also be expressions of love. And the best nonverbal way to show love is by giving someone a hug. Relationship experts say that we need 8 hugs a day to be happy and 12 hugs a day to thrive.

In the Bible, the Apostle John explains the origin of Love. “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love” (1 John 4:7-8 NIV).

Love is God’s idea and when we show love to others, we are living out the Gospel message to love others as we love ourselves. So whether it’s hearts and candy, a sentimental poem, or a good long hug, let’s show love to others this month, and every month of the year.
