Traveling Gluten Free
by Kimberly Rose Johnson
Being gluten free has it challenges, especially when traveling. Fortunately more and more people are going gluten free, and it’s becoming easier to find safe places to eat.
If you are planning a trip, there are a few things you should do in preparation. My best tip is to download the “find me gluten free” app. That app has been extremely helpful to me while traveling. It notes dedicated GF establishments, as well as places that have GF offerings on the menu. It goes a step further and gives reviews left by others. This allows you to know how safe it is to eat there. As anyone who is GF knows, just because it says it is GF doesn’t mean they handle the food in a safe manner.
Another tip is to bring along snack food that you can tuck in your glove box or purse in case you can’t find a safe place to eat. I realize this isn’t ideal, but take if from me, there really are places that have nothing to offer and those snacks will be all you get to eat.
I hope those tips help your next travel experience to be a pleasant one.
