When Our World Shakes
One month after the devastating earthquake, I was alone, seated at the dining room table in the house I stayed in during my visit to Quito, Ecuador. The chair moved a bit. I thought it was my imagination. Then the table moved from side to side. I jumped to my feet and my heart beat fast.
What flashed through my mind was another earthquake.
As the table shook, and the floor underneath me moved, I called out the name of Jesus.
The only thing I could do. Jesus was the One I could count on. He was the only one who could stop the shaking of my heart.
But peace and security arrive when we declare: “I will praise the LORD, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken” (Psalm 16:7-8).
