When Storms Rage

One night as thunder and lightning bolted across the sky, I found two large dogs huddled beside me. Katie, our quirky Vishle with the lopsided ear, was shaking. Clyde, our big strong Akita, burrowed into my legs.  They were frightened by the storm as they often were, and despite their strength and willfulness at other times, when storms came they wanted to get close.

We’re like that too, aren’t we?  When the storms come, that’s when we want to huddle close to the Father.  We may run off and do our own thing the rest of the time, but when we’re afraid, we run to Him.

God wants us to seek Him in times of trouble. He wants to be our comforter and our refuge when life gets overwhelming. His love never grows cold. We don’t have to go anywhere to find Him. He is always near.  All we need to do is whisper the name of Jesus, and He is with us.

“Then you will call, and the Lord will answer;
 you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I” (Isaiah 58:9).
