Your Mother’s Prayers

Kathy HarrisI prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him.

~ 1 Samuel 1:27 NIV

I once heard someone say that we are the product of our grandparents’ prayers. If that’s true—and I believe it is—then how much more must our lives be shaped by the devout supplications of a praying mother?

If you are the child of a praying mom, thank her today for those prayers. They may have gotten you through more than you can ever imagine.

The idea that we are blessed by the generations before us—whether it was by prayer or sacrificial actions—is often included in the stories I write. In my novel, The Road to Mercy, a grandfather plays an important role in the life of his granddaughter, Bethany Harrison. But it’s ultimately Bethany’s selfless choice and impassioned prayers that make a difference in the life or death of the child inside her womb.

Each of us is alive today because our mother chose to give us the gift of life—no matter what the circumstances or sacrificial cost. And if we were especially blessed, she also gave us the gift of her prayers.
